Melissa Destree, AIA, IIDA, RIDPrincipal Architect, Interior Designer
Melissa completed her education at UW-Milwaukee. She began her career at the Madison offices of Flad & Associates as an intern architect, followed a few years later by Kahler Slater Architects, focusing on corporate and healthcare interiors.
In February of 2000 Melissa began Destree Design Architects, a general practice firm focusing on planning, architecture and interior design. Celebrating almost two decades in design, Destree has developed a reputation for elegant yet functional buildings and interiors ranging from single and multi-family residential to corporate, hospitality, retail and municipal projects.
Melissa is an active member of both the International Interior Design Association (IIDA) and the American Institute of Architects (AIA). She is a current member of the AIA-Wisconsin Board of Directors and is the IIDA-WI Past President. She is a guest lecturer at the University of Wisconsin – Madison. Her firm’s work has been featured in Wisconsin Architect, Wisconsin Builder, the Wisconsin State Journal, Money Magazine and Architect Magazine. Melissa is a Licensed Architect and Registered Interior Designer.
Jessica Tyler, AIA, NCARB, LEED-APArchitect
Jessica obtained a BS in Architecture from the University of Illinois and completed her Masters of Architecture degree at UW-Milwaukee. She began her career at the Madison offices of Flad Architects as an intern architect. A few years later she moved to Mead & Hunt, Inc., focusing on aviation architecture and municipal/public safety buildings.
Jessica is passionate about creative planning and design, and her design work has been featured in Airport Improvement Magazine. Jessica is a Licensed Architect, a LEED accredited professional, certified by the National Council of Architectural Registration Boards (NCARB), and is a member of the American Institute of Architects (AIA).
Jeremy Cynkar, Assoc AIADirector of Commercial Design
Jeremy earned his Bachelor of Science in Architecture degree from the University of Wisconsin – Milwaukee. After completing his education, he joined the Janesville offices of Angus & Young Associates as an intern architect. Jeremy joined Destree Design Architects, Inc. in 2004 as a Project Coordinator and Construction Administrator.
Jeremy has more than 18 years of experience in project management and construction administration. He has extensive experience working with the City of Madison on the client’s behalf including; site development, municipality coordination, plan commission submittals, comprehensive zoning studies and navigating the approval process. He has led award winning projects including Samba Brazilian Grille, Bonfyre American Grille and The Coopers Tavern. Jeremy has also completed numerous renovations of Applebee’s and Pizza Hut restaurants across Wisconsin and the renovation of the University of Wisconsin – Madison Memorial Library Graduate Learning Center.
He is an active member of the American Institute of Architects. His work has been featured in Wisconsin Architect, Wisconsin Builder, The Daily Reporter and the Wisconsin State Journal.
Jason EkstromDirector of Residential Design
Jason earned his Certificate in Architecture Technology from Minneapolis Technical institute and over the past 23 years he has gained experience in historic renovation and rehabilitation, single-family and multifamily dwellings, restaurant design, and mixed-use developments. His design experience includes interior architecture, residential design, food service design and coordination, lighting design, comprehensive code studies and project coordination.
Since joining Destree in 2012 Jason has designed numerous residences from classic to contemporary in style. He was lead designer and project manager for the award winning Prairie Café Building in Middleton as well as a lead designer on the Park Hotel renovation in Madison, WI in 2016.
Richard Dolezal, Assoc. AIAProject Specialist / Designer
Richard earned a Specialized Associate of Science Degree in Architecture and Design at Northwest Technical Institute, Eagan, MN, in 1995. He has broad experience in AutoCAD and Architectural Desktop including training and support of staff. He installs and tests hardware and software systems and offers technical support for any computer program to end users. He has over 20 years experience as a drafter in commercial and residential drafting and construction. Experience includes creating and developing high-quality design drawings from the schematic phase through construction documents.
David ZensProject Specialist/Designer
David earned his Master of Architecture at Savannah College of Art and Design and his Bachelor of Science in Computer Engineering at University of Wisconsin - Madison. He worked at Architectural Network as an Intern Architect and Computer Systems Manager for 13 years. David more recently worked at TURIS Systems LLC as a BIM Specialist and Project Manager. He brings his broad experience, attention to detail and witty humor to our Destree team.
Lara Bakker Rosol, Assoc. AIAProject Specialist/Designer
Lara has worked on Science and Technology Environments, Performing Arts Centers, Commercial Office Buildings, Manufacturing Plants, and Hotels. She has a passion for sustainable building and has exemplary communication and interpersonal skills.
Meg Arndt, NCIDQ, IIDA, RIDInterior Designer
Meg earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in Interior Architecture at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point. Throughout her career she has developed a reputation for solving problems while creating functional and aesthetically pleasing spaces on projects throughout the Midwest. Projects she has worked on include group meeting spaces at the Epic Campus, the Graduate Learning Center at the University of Wisconsin-Madison Memorial Library, various corporate offices, the Post Restaurant and the award-winning Park Hotel in Madison. Meg is a Registered Interior Designer and an active member of the International Interior Design Association.
Toby LatimerGraphic Designer/Office Administration
Toby attended UW Madison studying Art and Education and was awarded an Associate Degree in Graphic Design from MATC, Madison, WI. She has experience as a Graphic Designer for over six years, managing a variety of small businesses including her own coffee shop business for three years. Toby is responsible for business services, office management, human resources and project accounting. She also organizes and maintains the Materials Library, designs Destree Design Architects advertising and marketing pieces and assists with clients’ graphic needs.
Jill BlumerAdvisor to the Board
Jill has spent almost 20 years in the engineering and telecommunications industries working for companies large and small nationwide. She provides operational expertise to Destree’s Board of Directors related to Project Management, IT, Human Resources, Quality Standards and Best Practices. Jill holds both a Bachelor’s and a Master’s degree from the University of Wisconsin, Madison.
